WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A GoFundMe account has been established for a Wausau family after their house was deemed a total loss following a fire.
According to GoFundMe, the victims were hopeful that the home and many of their belongings would be saved, but the damage was worse than it appeared. Recent rain and other conditions beyond their control have led to the realization that the home will need to be demolished. “What couldn’t be destroyed by fire has been ruined by water, heat, and recent rain. Nearly everything inside—including furniture, electronics, clothing, and anything made of wood, plastic, or paper—has been lost,” according to the post.
While the family has insurance, most of it will go toward covering the demolition and paying off the mortgage, leaving little left to help rebuild. “They are facing the overwhelming task of starting completely from scratch—needing everything from basic necessities like dishes and clothing to larger essentials like furniture and appliances,” the post continues.

The fire happened on Wednesday, June 3rd, starting in the garage and spreading to the attic. Fire and heat damage extended to nearby structures.
It was reported by a USPS letter carrier, who alerted the family. The Wausau Fire Department praised their actions, saying they allowed the family to evacuate safely.
Organizers are hoping to raise $18,000. As of Wednesday evening, just over $2,500 has come in. Click here to donate.
