MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Employees at Marshfield’s Wildwood Zoo are asking for the public’s help to locate a striped skunk after she escaped from her habitat this week.
Employees believe a combination of heavy snow and rain may have washed out some of Violet’s habitat, creating an opening for her to escape.
Violet has been descented and is up to date on all vaccinations. She is accustomed to being around people, meaning she may not flee if approached.
Officials with the Wildwood Zoo have set traps in areas where they think she may be roaming.
While she is not considered a dangerous animal, anyone who finds her should not handle her and treat her as they would any other wild animal. If you believe you have seen Violet, please contact Marshfield dispatch at 715-387-4394 immediately with the location and try to keep a visual on the skunk. Please do not attempt to capture or approach any skunk encountered in the wild.
Officials add that Violt’s habitat has safely housed her for the last two years. The same habitat has also housed numerous other animals, large and small, without incident.
