TOWN OF SHARON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A commercial truck hauling liquid asphalt rolled over on County Rd Y north of Bentley Road in the Town of Sharon on Saturday.
The Portage County Communications Center received a 911 call about the single-vehicle crash with injuries around 11:35am.
The truck belonged to an asphalt maintenance company and was carrying a liquid asphalt maintenance product that spilled onto the roadway. The product is not considered a hazardous material and no threat to life or safety exists.
Crews from the Rosholt Fire Department quickly contained the spill. The driver failed to negotiate a curve while traveling northbound on County Road Y, lost control and the vehicle rolled over.
The driver suffered serious injuries and was transported by Portage County Ambulance to Aspirus Wausau. County Road Y was closed between County Roadd J in Marathon County and Bentley Road for most of Saturday for clean-up operations.
