STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -The City of Stevens Point broke ground on a new city hall.
City officials gathered to celebrate the start of construction on the new Stevens Point City Hall. The new building will provide a space for city employees while allowing the current city hall to be fully converted into a new Portage County Courthouse.
Leaders say the agreement could save taxpayers an estimated $40 million to $50 million compared to building a brand-new courthouse. The new city hall will feature a sculpture inspired by the former city hall and include architectural elements that pay tribute to the historic Weber Tackle Building, which once occupied the site.
Construction is expected to continue over the next year. City leaders are planning to officially open the new city hall with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in July 2027.
