“I'm the wild card in this race,” Rep. Francesca Hong told POLITICO in an interview ahead of her campaign launch. | Hong for Governor campaign
CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – I would have considered this an impossibility even just a few weeks ago. Could crazy-liberal Francesca Hong actually be the next governor of Wisconsin?
And the answer today is, perhaps – in an election based totally on turnout and how the votes are counted.
I DO think she will win the democrat primary in August. The mood within her party is the further left, the better. She is so left-wing that she might fall off the face of the earth.
And she comes with lots of baggage. Hong was such a failure in the restaurant business that she rang up a $30,000 debt on her Discover Card. They were going to take her to court – and then, our of nowhere – the debt was paid. Where did the money come from is a legitimate question. No one carries that type of credit card balance if they have the means to pay it.
And Francisca has publicly shared her “dream” for Wisconsin: where jails and armed police would not be necessary. Well, yes, if men were angels. And then she went on to say that “visions are the basis of policy”; meaning she’d work to make her dreams a reality… which should scare everyone.
One political analyst noted that Donald Trump has already won Wisconsin – twice – and came within 20,000 votes of winning it a third time… so there are a lot of ‘never Hong’ voters around the state. But… if she is the democrat’s nominee… every liberal in Madison and Milwaukee will rush to the polls to vote for her. She’ll win the state’s liberal bastions by 95-to-5 margins.
What would a Hong vs Tom Tiffany race come down to: two things, turnout and how the votes are counted. Considering the way voting is conducted in our two largest cities, that’s a big concern.
