MADISON, WI (WSAU) – A new report details what the Wisconsin Democratic Party plans to do after Tuesday’s primary elections.
According to POLITICO, the party is planning a statewide unity tour that will include a first stop in Middleton on Wednesday for a breakfast featuring guests such as U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Rep. Mark Pocan, and Gov. Tony Evers, and then a rally tomorrow night in Milwaukee that governor candidate David Crowley is likely to attend even if he were to lose to Democratic socialist Francesca Hong. More stops are expected to be announced in the coming days.
When asked about the possibility of Hong becoming the Democratic candidate, one longtime Democratic campaign operative in Wisconsin, granted anonymity to speak candidly to the outlet, said, “Socialism scares the s*** out of the persuadable voters we routinely need to win here, and the unforced errors will be deadly if she doesn’t sharpen some of her answers … for her past tweets and positions.”
In an interview last week, Gov. Evers declined to commit to endorsing or campaigning for Hong should she win. Other far-left politicians such as U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren have also declined to endorse Hong, with Warren telling reporters, “I don’t know her.”
Hong has campaigned with other far-left political stars such as Rep. Ilhan Omar and socialist influencer Hasan Piker, and Alan Minsky, the executive director of Progressive Democrats of America, praised Hong, saying, “If Francesca Hong is elected the governor of Wisconsin, people are going to see somebody working very, very rigorously as the governor, like [Zohran] Mamdani is as the mayor of New York, to pursue a set of policies that people are rapidly going to recognise are in their best interests. They’re going to embrace [Hong] as much as they have Mamdani, whose popularity right now is off the charts.”
According to the latest data from Polymarket, the Democrats had an 85% chance of retaining the governorship on May 20th, but as Hong has continued to rise in the polls, Republican Tom Tiffany now holds a 60% chance of becoming Wisconsin’s next governor in November. The polling market gives Hong a 97% chance of winning tonight’s Democratic primary.
