CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Kasey Thomasson and her 17-year-old daughter Annie are WNBA fans from Georgia. When Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever came to town, they bought expensive tickets near the court, hoping for a Sophie meet-up during pregame warm-ups.
That didn’t happen.
What did happen was a confrontation between them and an arena security guard. They were told to cover up their pro-girls sports tee-shirts, or be removed from the game.
Earlier in the game, another fan with a ‘Protect Trans Rights’ shirt was shown on the video board. The crowd cheered. She then complained to security another Kasey and Annie’s shirts, who were sitting a few rows over. The security guard approached with some team merch in-hand. “Either cover yourself with these, or you’ll have to leave.” The game had already started. Kasey and Annie acquiesced.
The policy at State Farm Arena says: ““Obscene or indecent messages on signs or clothing will not be permitted.“ To point out the obvious, biology is not obscene or indecent.
The WNBA is the gang that can’t shoot straight. Their superstar player gets savaged in almost every game. They are about to have two former NBA players in their upcoming draft if they don’t change their bylaws to allow only female athletes to play. And silly side-issues like tee-shirts make national headlines, while the actual games get almost no coverage.
The league is descending into a joke. What on the tee-shirts that fans wear to their arena should be the least of their problems.
