MENASHA, WI (WSAU) — The Green Bay Packers have announced a large donation for tornado relief efforts in Menasha.
The team will give $250,000 through the Packers Give Back fund. The money will go to three groups, including $75,000 each to the city and school district for new playground equipment.
Those funds will help refurbish Smith Park and the playground at Menasha Gegan Elementary School. Both were destroyed when an EF3 tornado ripped through the Fox Valley in July, causing widespread damage before dissipating over Lake Winnebago.
They’ll also give $100,000 to the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity.
“Our thoughts continue to be with everyone impacted by the storms in the Fox Valley this summer,” said Packers President and CEO Ed Policy in a press release. “The outpouring of support from our community has been incredible. The public safety personnel, first responders, and countless volunteers who have stepped up and continue to support recovery efforts are truly impressive.”
Packers Give Back is the team’s all-encompassing community outreach initiative that includes the Green Bay Packers Foundation, appearances made by players, alumni, coaches and staff, football outreach, cash and in-kind donations, Make-A-Wish visits and community events. The annual overall charitable impact of Packers Give Back exceeds $15 million.
