Andrew Showers
WAUPACA, WI (WSAU-WKOW) — A former Madison priest was convicted Tuesday of three felony counts related to child sex crimes.
Court records show Andrew Showers, 38, pleaded no contest and was convicted of attempted child enticement-exposing intimate parts, attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child, and possession of child pornography.
The charges against Showers stem from a 2025 investigation. According to the criminal complaint, Showers privately messaged an undercover Clintonville police officer who was posing as a 14-year-old girl. The complaint said Showers’ messages became explicit and that he asked the “girl” to meet and engage in sexual activities.
The two arranged to meet in Clintonville. Officers arrested him on the spot.
A search of his cellphone turned up pornographic images, some of which appeared to show girls under the age of 18.
Showers also faces a charge in Marathon County of attempted grooming of a child for sexual activity. Prosecutors filed the case in August, and it is scheduled for a telephone conference on October 22nd. He is held on a $15,000 cash bond and has not yet entered a plea.
A count of attempting to use a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and a second count of child pornography possession were dismissed but read into the record, meaning they will be considered at his sentencing on Jan. 12, 2027.
After his arrest, the Vatican stripped Showers of his priesthood.
