STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point are asking the public to avoid the downtown Post Office after a report of a suspicious package.
Police were called to the building at 10:00 AM after a worker reported a “potential explosive device,” according to a news release. Officers said they couldn’t verify the device and shut down nearby roads as a precaution.
Main Street is currently closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Authorities confirmed that the device is secured inside the building, and all workers have been evacuated.
The Marathon County Bomb Squad has been called to assist. No further information is available at this time, and it’s unclear when Main Street will reopen to traffic.
