MILWAUKEE. WI (WSAU) — During a visit to a community COVID-19 vaccination site in Milwaukee on Monday, Governor Tony Evers signed a bill allowing some dentists to administer COVID-19 vaccinations.
Under terms of the bill, dentists that have completed certain training including an eight-hour course of study and other training courses on vaccine storage, protocols, administration technique, emergency procedures, and record-keeping will be allowed to give vaccinations if they have in effect liability insurance meeting certain requirements. The administering dentist must also update their vaccinations to the state’s registry within one week.
Dentists will not be able to administer vaccines to those under the age of six unless they have completed the required training.
“Wisconsin has been consistently at the top as a leader in the nation in getting available shots in arms, and that’s in part because Wisconsinites are always ready to roll up their sleeves and help,” said Gov. Evers. “It’s all hands on deck and dentists have the right knowledge and experience to get shots in arms quickly and safely, and we know we can use their help to get this done and to put the pandemic behind us.”
The Governor signed the bill at the UW Milwaukee vaccination clinic.
