WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — It’s Election Day across Central Wisconsin.
Today’s non-partisan races feature City Council, Village Trustee, County Supervisor, and Town Board races for nearly every municipality. Some of those are featuring contested races for the first time in years.
Two of the biggest races in the region today are in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids- both cities will elect Mayors. In Marshfield, where they’ve been without a Mayor for nearly a year, former Mayor Bob McManus is running against former Downtown Business Association leader Lois TeStrake.
McManus was removed from office last Spring on a vote of the City Council for deleting text messages from a city-issued cell phone that were later part of an open records request. He is eligible to run again because he was not found guilty in the court of law.
In Wisconsin Rapids, incumbent Mayor Shane Blaser is up against local businessman Nikkilas Wix.
Voters in some school districts will also decide on funding referendum questions. Those include Wausau, Edgar, and Medford.
