WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A new aluminum recycling plant has set its groundbreaking date in Wisconsin Rapids.
In January of 2019, Toronto-based Matalco chose Wisconsin Rapids East Commerce Center as the location for its new aluminum recycling plant. As of September, they have set a groundbreaking date for Tuesday, October 1st.

A press release from Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Zach Vruwink includes the ceremony date and a brief update on the project. In the release, Vruwink says, “All approvals from state and local agencies have been secured and the necessary permits have been issued to begin construction.”
The $80 million, 110,000 square foot plant will have the latest technology to produce over 230 million pounds of aluminum billet a year. The new plant will also employ 80 permanent full-time positions that will include both skilled and unskilled labor, ranging from office workers and accountants to forklift operators and a full-time meteorologist.
The facility, which will be built at 4800 Commerce Drive, will hold its groundbreaking at noon on October 1st.
