WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A man who fell from the Landmark Apartments on March 21st died from his injuries, according to a report from the Wausau Pilot and Review.
Officers identified the man as Richard Dykstra, who had told his roommate he thought the police were after him.
Police add that they were not in the building until someone called for help and that they were not attempting to locate Dykstra until then as well.
Dykstra had barricaded himself in his room and attempted to flee the unit by opening a window and tying some bedding together into a makeshift rope, which broke and caused him to fall three stories to the street below.
He was rushed to a local hospital and according to police, he was on life support while waiting for an organ donation. He died nine days later, on March 30th.
Officers have called his death a tragedy. They do not suspect foul play was involved.
The Pilot and Review received the information through an open records request with the PD, according to a story published late last week.
