BROWNSVILLE, TX (WSAU) – On Tuesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he will be deploying more than 1,100 resources to Texas to help Governor Greg Abbott deal with the issue of illegal immigration, according to Fox News.
“The impacts of Biden’s Border Crisis are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law,” DeSantis stated in a press release. “At my direction, state agencies including law enforcement and the Florida National Guard are being deployed to Texas, with assets including personnel, boats, and planes. While Biden ignores the crisis he created, Florida stands ready to help Texas respond to this crisis.”
According to the governor’s office, Florida is set to send more than 1,100 assets and resources, including 17 unmanned drones, 10 boats, including airboats, 800 National Guard soldiers, 800 members of the disaster management team, 101 members of the Highway Patrol, 200 members of the Department of Law Enforcement, and 101 Highway Patrol vehicles.
The action follows the conclusion of Title 42, which resulted in an estimated 83,000 illegal border crossings last week, by far the greatest number ever registered in American history. Fox News also spoke to sources in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), that confirmed that Border Patrol agents detained an Afghan national who had entered the country illegally in California last week and is on the FBI’s terror watchlist.
DeSantis has stated that he wants to complete former President Trump’s border wall and is anticipated to launch a presidential campaign in the coming days.
The Trump administration did construct 450 miles of border wall, but the vast bulk of that was spent updating preexisting barriers. In locations where there were no prior border barriers, just 85 miles of new border wall — 52 miles of new primary wall and 33 miles of new secondary wall — were constructed, according to a press statement from US Customs and Border Protection and the US Army Corps of Engineers that was praised by the Trump campaign.
