STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – Graduates from UWSP are quickly finding jobs around central Wisconsin.
Assistant Director for Career Services Jacqui Guthrie spoke about the high rates of employment saying, “More than 50% of them (graduates) have already lined up jobs mostly in central Wisconsin and another 20% are going to be continuing their education by going on to graduate/professional school.”
Guthrie also spoke about working toward changing the optics around getting a college degree to be focused on a starting wage saying, “I think it’s important for our community to understand that it’s not just the starting wage that someone can earn after pursuing a bachelors degree but it’s also their long term growth opportunity and job security over time.”
This follows recent figures given by the state Department of Workforce Development, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate fell to 2.4% in April, marking another record low for the state, even as labor force participation climbed throughout the month.
Back in 2020, College Board performed a study that showed median earnings of bachelor’s degree recipients working full-time (no further degree beyond the BA) was $24,900 greater than those of high school graduates.
Their study also found that education level was substantially associated with the percentage of full-time workers making $100,000 or more yearly among those aged 35 to 44, with 38% having at least an associate’s degree.
