MOSINEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Students and parents were allowed back into the Mosinee School District buildings on Friday to pick up personal items left behind after Thursday’s evacuation.
Freshman Charlie Michalski said they had to act quickly with very little information about why. “I thought that maybe some kid was having an issue in a hallway or that a weapon was found or some sort of substance, but then the whole school, just all of them pouring out and I looked over at the middle school and no one was coming out so I kinda got concerned.”
Steve Southworth said he was concerned but still had faith in the process, “Well as a parent, it was very nerve-wracking. I know the police department throughout the whole area, is 100% ready for stuff like this, because of all the stuff going on all over the United States. They were very well prepared, the kids were very well treated.”

No one was injured in the evacuation process and all students were safely reunited with their families. The district did not hold classes on Friday but will reopen on Monday with extra counselors on staff for any student who needs to talk.
Thursday’s treat was made to the 988 Crisis Hotline. Investigators say the caller warned about “multiple” explosives hidden on school grounds, but a complete sweep of the district’s buildings found no sign of any such devices. The investigation into the incident continues, and the district has promised to press charges if a suspect emerges.
