MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Republican National Convention is just 38 days away from beginning in the Badger State, and possible VP candidates have already begun talking to voters across the state.
On Friday, both former 2020 Democratic candidate for president Tulsi Gabbard and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem were in Wisconsin, trying to make their case to former President Trump that they could help him win Wisconsin in November.
According to Fox 6, who sat down for an interview with Gabbard on Friday, she believes there is a lot of noise going on about the convention and the rumors that she could be chosen to run for VP, saying, “These conventions can be very chaotic. There’s a lot of energy and a lot of people. This is part of our democratic process. It’s an important one,” and when asked directly about the VP rumors, she kept the information close, saying, “I’m not going to comment on that. We’ve met and spoken several times. I wouldn’t be surprised if he made his decision on the eve of the convention.”
ABC News reported on Wednesday that Trump had requested documents from protentional candidates that did not include either Gabbard or Noem but instead North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), and former cabinet member Ben Carson.
A spokesperson for the Trump campaign stated earlier this year that “anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying unless the person is named Donald J. Trump.”
According to the latest odds on Polymarket, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is the leading contender for the VP job at 28%, while North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum sits in second at 18%, Sen. Marco Rubio is in third at 11%, and Sen. J.D. Vance is in fourth at 9%.
