MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde made several stops around central Wisconsin during his “Restore the American Dream” RV Tour on Thursday ending at Mosinee’s Crystal Finishing.
Hovde, who is challenging incumbent Tammy Baldwin for her seat in the U.S. Senate, took a tour of the facility and met with business leaders who spoke about how inflation and issues with imports are causing the industry to see tough times.
While speaking about his overall takeaways from the conversations and what the most common theme of his stops today was, Hovde said voters and business owners want to see the U.S. go in a new direction saying, “The number one issue right now is the cost of everything from food, energy, cost of housing and insurance, and cost of healthcare and the second biggest issue is the border. Everybody I talk to is very concerned about the border and has been touched by the fentanyl crisis knowing somebody that has lost someone to it and we need change.”
The tour of Crystal Finishing was Hovde’s fourth stop of the day, which began with a grassroots meet and greet at Schmitty’s on Main in Neillsville before touring Draxler Transport in Marshfield and Plover River Farms in Stevens Point.
Hovde’s 28-county tour is running alongside Tammy Baldwin’s “Fired Up for Tammy” tour of the Badger State as the candidates compete for a seat that is considered to be a coin toss by many pollsters, including a recent analysis by the Remington Research Group, which found that there is currently a statistical tie at 48%, while the latest Marquette Law School Poll has Baldwin ahead of Hovde by 5 percentage points.
