WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – While the FBI continues its investigation into the deadly rally shooting that took place last month and almost resulted in the assassination of former President Donald Trump, the family of Thomas Matthew Crooks has hired a prestigious legal group.
According to the Daily Mail, which reported on Monday that Crooks’ parents had enlisted the services of renowned Pittsburgh legal practice Quinn Logue, which does have experience in criminal defense but mainly focuses on matters involving personal damage, legal malpractice, and employment lawsuits. The law firm declined to comment when the New York Post reached out to confirm whether they had entered a professional relationship with the family.
The FBI has been attempting to investigate why Crooks attempted to assassinate former president Trump over the course of the last six weeks which resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, a firefighter and rally attendee, while fellow rally attendees James Copenhaver and David Dutch were injured.
Legal precedence for finding parents legally at fault for acts of violence committed by their children was created earlier this year when the parents of Oxford High School in Michigan school shooter Ethan Crumbley were convicted and sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison on counts of involuntary manslaughter for each victim of the 2021 shooting due to prosecutors arguing that they knowingly ignored signs that their son was planning the shooting, including a text they sent to him saying, “Ethan, don’t do it.”
Wisconsin U.S. Senator Ron Johnson addressed the investigation’s timeline during an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” saying, “All I can really tell you is the Secret Service and FBI are basically dragging their feet. They’re stonewalling us.”
Back in July, the New York Times reported on text messages between members of the Beaver County Emergency Service Unit that revealed Crooks was a known suspect by law enforcement 90 minutes before he opened fire, with one text stating, “Kid leaning around the building we are in. AGR I believe it is. I did see him with a range finder looking towards stage. FYI. If you wanna notify SS snipers to look out. I lost sight of him.”
According to the New York Post, Iowa U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley released documents earlier this month that detailed that Crooks visited the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club in Pennsylvania 43 times over this year as he underwent “intense preparation” for the assassination attempt.
