MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers just began their spring training program on Wednesday but have already announced who their Opening Day starting pitcher will be.
According to manager Pat Murphy, ace Freddy Peralta will once again be the Brewers’ Opening Day starter for the second straight year after defeating the New York Mets on Opening Day in 2024.
While speaking to Brewers insider Adam McCalvy, Peralta said he wants to keep the Opening Day starter role for as long as possible, saying, “I want to keep it my [whole] career. You never know how long it’s going to be, but it’s something I feel good about.”
Last season, Peralta went 11-9 with a 3.68 ERA. He also collected 200 strikeouts, which ranked him 11th in all of baseball. During his playoff start against the Mets, Peralta allowed three runs on just two hits during the team’s 8-4 Game One loss in Milwaukee. The Brewers will open the 2025 regular season on Thursday, March 27th, on the road against the New York Yankees.
