WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Snowmobile enthusiasts in Marathon County will see updates to trail openings starting Sunday.
Zones 1 and 2 will open at 6am on January 18. Zone 3 will have a partial opening of the Mountain Bay Trail from Ross Avenue to County Highway J, with access down to Weston Avenue for fuel.
Zone 5 will open on Monday, but there will be a closure from Intersection 110 to 112.
Zones 4 and 6 remain closed until further notice.
Trail conditions are early season and non-groomed in areas, so caution is advised, especially at water and creek crossings. Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry urges riders to stay on open trails and avoid off-trail riding to prevent trespassing, which could lead to trail loss or citations.
Snowmobile trails that allow winter ATV use will generally open to ATVs 10 days after snowmobile access begins. Trails will close to ATVs when the air temperature exceeds 28 degrees.
Riders should consult the Marathon County Snowmobile Trail Map for ATV-use trails. UTVs are not permitted on Marathon County Snowmobile Trails at any time.
