WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Emergency responders were dispatched to Wausau’s east side for a microwave fire.
WAOW TV reports that the incident was on Parcher Street, located near Horace Mann Middle School and Athletic Park. Crews from the Wausau Fire Department and the Wausau Police Department were called for a report of a structure fire at 801 Parcher St. at 7:48 a.m. Wausau Fire Battalion Chief Jeremy Kopp said when they arrived on the scene they learned a microwaved had overheated, filling the apartment of an assisted living facility with smoke.
Residents were evacuated and waiting in two buses until the scene was clear. One person was transported to an area hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation. Kopp said the process to evacuate residents and keep them safe and warm was done in a timely process. The only damage to the apartment was to the microwave and the countertop it sat on.
