WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) With a surge in demand, the need for COVID-19 tests is reaching its capacity. Marathon County’s testing locations have run out of rapid tests. The PCR tests being used take three days to get results back.
“Case-wise, this is the worst, most burdensome part of the pandemic we’ve been in,” said Marathon County Health Department Public Information Officer Aaron Ruff. “Our testing systems are overburdened. We have such a high demand and such a high level of cases that systems cannot keep up.”
These issues have forced changes for school district across the state, with rapid testing no longer available for districts like Wausau’s because of low supply.” So as a result of that, the service that they have provided us with the mobile units is only able to do PCR testing,” said Tabatha Gundrum, Human Resources Director for the Wausau School District.
University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point has rapid testing available, but only in limited amounts.
