ABBOTSFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A Green Bay-based tire company with locations throughout the Midwest is facing fines over the death of an employee in Abbotsford.
Cody Weinke, 28, was mounting a tire at Pomp’s Tire Service. He died when the tire came loose and struck him.
A report from Wisconsin Public Radio says Pomp’s faces a $14,502 fine after the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found it failed to properly train Weinke.
Less than a month later, a Pomp’s employee died the same way. There also have been at least three other deaths at Pomp’s locations in the past five years under similar circumstances.
Companies that face OSHA fines can either pay them, appeal them into the court system, or reach a negotiated or stipulated settlement.
