WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Foot Locker has informed the State Department of Workforce Development that they plan to close their Wausau distribution facility by May 2023, resulting in the loss of 210 jobs.
In a notice to the DWD that was published on Wednesday, the move will help the company optimize its US distribution network to serve customers better. All employees at the facility located on 72nd Avenue will be impacted and the closure is expected to be permanent. All impacted workers have been notified.
Plans call for 162 layoffs to occur by January 31st. Another 48 workers will stay on through the end of April. All jobs lost will be non-union jobs, meaning no bumping rights are in place for those workers. The company does plan to help impacted workers find other jobs in the company and will hold job fairs as well.
The notice was sent to Mayor Katie Rosenberg and the Northcentral Wisconsin Workforce Development Board. Rosenberg says she has talked with leadership at Foot Locker but is unavailable for further comment.
The news also comes after Eastbay closed its retail store in Wausau earlier this month with little notice.
