PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Plover Administrator Dan Ault says there’s no bad blood between the Village and Stevens Point.
The Village Board recently voted to cut ties with the Stevens Point Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, a move that he says is being made to help strengthen the entire region. “While they’re doing their thing, we are going to focus on our pitch and our beliefs on marketing,” said Ault. “What we are going to do is target wheels on ramps. We want people to get in here, and when they start experiencing and seeing what Plover is all about, then they will also see and experience what Stevens Point is all about.
“What’s the ole saying? Two voices are lounder than one,” he added.
Ault says he still plans to collaborate with the neighboring group on some projects and campaigns when appropriate, such as during the upcoming USGA Men’s Senior Open at SentryWorld next July. But he feels that Plover’s story can be best told by the Village itself. “Heritage Park, Woyak Sports Complex, the baseball tournaments, [other] parks, our great restaurants. We also have a pretty great campground there outside village limits, we are a destination.”
“We are the bullseye, smack dab in the middle of the state of Wisconsin, and I’ve got 14,000 reasons to have done what we did. It’s because we are Plover proud,” added Ault.
Ault adds that the move isn’t because they have had some kind of bad experience with the Stevens Point Area CVB recently, and he thinks that the group is doing a fine job of marketing the area to potential visitors.
“We really think we are going to help the region more by taking two different marketing strategies. We want to help them as much as we want to help ourselves,” he added.
