RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU) — Town planners in Rib Mountain got a very early look at a proposal for what would be Wausau’s first Chick-Fil-A location off Rib Mountain Drive.
Developers are eyeing the former Olson Carpet store for the location, which would require a re-zone to allow for drive-thru access. But that wasn’t the only thing that concerned members of the Plan Commission on Wednesday.
Commissioners spent nearly 25 minutes discussing a range of concerns with developers which included the current traffic flow in the area. Director of Community Development Jared Grande said if a restaurant like Chick-Fil-A were to materialize in that area, it could require limited access according to a recent Traffic Impact Analysis study. “Any development on this site could require a right-in, right-out,” said Grande.
Commissioners also noted that the area for the proposed development is already busy with Texas Roadhouse, Starbucks, and Day’s Inn all located across the street.
Others were hoping that the development could come with some sort of buffer to conceal some of its parking lot from street view.
Commissioners added that none of the feedback is meant to scare away the developers. Instead, they would like to work with developers to bring the project to reality.
No further action on the potential development was immediately scheduled. Wednesday’s discussion was for informational purposes only and to provide feedback to developers.
