Wisconsin Badgers
MINNEAPOLIS and MANKATO, MN (WSAU) — Two goals from Britta Curl lifted the Wisconsin women’s hockey team to a 5-1 win over MSU Mankato in WCHA play on Saturday.
Sophie Shirley added a goal and an assist. Casey O’Brien also found the back of the net for the Badgers.
The Mavericks’ lone goal came in the first period on the power play from Madison Mashuga. It was the only extra-skater advantage for the Mavs in the game.
Cami Kronish made 12 saves to pick up the win in net.
Wisconsin hits the Christmas break at 15-2-1 on the season and 12-1-1 in the WCHA. They’ll be off until December 31st and January 1st when they take on Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT to ring in the new year. It’ll be the final two non-conference games of the season for Wisconsin.
The Badger men weren’t so lucky in Minneapolis as they were defeated by Minnesota 6-4 in a goal fest.
Brock Caufield recorded a goal and an assist early in the game as Wisconsin built a 2-0 lead only to see Minnesota score six straight before the end of the second.
Corson Ceulemans, Liam Malmquist, and Anthony Kehrer also scored for the Badgers.
Minnesota’s six goals came from six different players. Three of them were scored on the power play.
Kyle McClellan gave up five goals before being pulled three minutes into the second period. Jared Moe finished the game in net, allowing one goal and making 13 saves.
Wisconsin enters the Christmas break with a record of 7-11-0 and 1-9-0 in Big Ten play.
The next action for the Badgers will be two games at the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Wisconsin opens the four-team tournament with Lake Superior State and will play either UMass or Clarkson in their second game. Following the Holiday Face-Off, Wisconsin will dive back into B1G play against Notre Dame.
