DULUTH, MN (WSAU) — As if the madness of the basketball tournaments aren’t enough, the Wisconsin women’s hockey team needed overtime to top border and WCHA rival Minnesota 3-2 in the semifinals of the Women’s Hockey National Championship on Friday.
Freshman Caroline Harvey scored the game-winner with 3:13 to go in the first OT off a feed from Jesse Compher, beating the Gophers netminder top-shelf to clinch the win. Laila Edwards and Sophie Shirley also scored in the game for the Badgers.
Goaltender Cami Kronish picked up her 20th win of the season with 37 saves. Twenty-two of those came in the 3rd period and overtime.
Wisconsin is now 4-2 against Minnesota this year, including postseason play. The game also marked the 3rd overtime contest between the schools, they split two regular-season meetings in WCHA play. Both of those went to a shootout.
The Badgers will play Ohio State for the NCAA Women’s Hockey National Championship Sunday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth. Face-off is set for 3 PM, and coverage can be seen on ESPNU.
