WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau School District is moving forward with redistricting plans, but some people are still dissatisfied with the plan.
The District held a public meeting on Wednesday afternoon to go over the plan and provide some further details on where the District is currently at.
One of the residents who spoke said, “I’m not here ’cause I’m worried about money, I’m not here ’cause I’m worried about teachers/staff, I’m here ’cause I’m worried about the kids…I taught for 31 years…I have a lot to go back on and this is going to hurt the kids.”
She continued by discussing the future of high school sports in Wausau and expressing her concerns about students losing opportunities to play on a team once the plan goes into effect.
Another resident also spoke about how she felt the district was more interested in a plan that benefited them and provide new sports facilities which was met with some push back by administrators saying, “That is not part of the restructuring, that could happen later with some private funding and the board has talked about that. They’ve looked at drawings and they have aspirations in that direction but that is not part of the restructuring.”
