WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A large portion of the state, including several of the counties here in central Wisconsin, has received air quality warnings from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
For the counties of Adams, Clark, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Price, Taylor, Vilas, and Wood, an air quality alert was in effect from Thursday at noon through Friday.
Some parts of the state are in the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” orange area, which can be problematic for those who have asthma, kids, and seniors.
According to the DNR, smoke from Canadian wildfires will enter the state on Thursday as it blows from the northwest to the southeast. It is anticipated that the air quality would occasionally “sharply increase” and become unhealthy for particular populations.
The DNR also says that communities further west could experience “unhealthy” air quality, or a red alert. More northeastern areas may experience “moderate” level—or yellow advisory—impacts.
