SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) – The principal of the Shawano Middle School has informed parents that he will no longer allow cellphone use during any period of the school day.
This comes after a video of a Shawano Middle School student attacking another student in the class was shared online.
It was shared on an Instagram account that has since been deleted. The account contained several recordings of children at the middle school attacking each other.
Shawano school board President Mike Musolff says that the board is working on outlining the actions they will take to improve the situation.
He was unable to discuss the precise measures taken against the student in the most recent attack but he did say, “We work in collaboration together with the school district, so if the school district decides to go for something past suspension, that would be an expulsion, they would come to the school board and have the school board decide on the expulsion,” Musolff told WBAY.
In a letter to parents, the principal also stated that he will send out a survey next week seeking volunteers for school initiatives and is open to feedback.
Musolff says he’s also open to recommendations and he invites parents to attend and speak at the next school board meeting on June 5th.
