TALLAHASSEE, FL (WSAU) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will announce his candidacy for President tomorrow night during a Twitter Spaces interview with Elon Musk.
David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur who supports DeSantis and is a confidant of Elon Musk, will moderate the interview, which will start at 5 PM CST, according to NBC News.
The campaign will also debut its launch video the same night, and DeSantis will start touring several early states after Memorial Day.
DeSantis may benefit greatly from the alliance because it will provide him access to and credibility with Musk’s enormous following, which includes his 140 million Twitter followers.
Musk has praised DeSantis and declared that if the governor decided to run for president, he would back him.
The announcement will coincide with a retreat in Miami for fundraisers who have promised to back DeSantis. Supporters will assemble at the Four Seasons hotel from May 24-26 for briefings from campaign executives as well as time to call around to raise funds for the campaign.
According to a source familiar with the discussions who spoke with NBC News, the DeSantis team has been in contact with Musk for at least a couple weeks.
It’s unclear whether Musk will publicly endorse DeSantis on Wednesday, but another source claimed that his presence is seen as a clear indicator of support for the governor among DeSantis’ staff.
