MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) – Willow, the red fox at Wildwood Zoo, has passed away from complications following what was thought to be a routine surgery.
Willow died after a routine spay appointment during which a possible cancerous cyst was discovered, according to a press release. Willow appeared to be doing well following the surgery, but she quickly deteriorated and passed.
The zoo is awaiting test results to help clarify what caused her temperature to drop and her ability to breathe to deteriorate.
Willow was brought to the zoo after previously being a pet, allowing her to serve as an ambassador for her species and a warning that wild animals should not be kept as pets.
Wildwood stated that her “silly and sweet demeanor” will be greatly missed and thanked everyone for their continued support of the park and zoo.
