DETROIT, MI (WSAU) – The Packers had 17 players unavailable due to injury, and seemed to be outmanned against Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. But the Packers rode the hot arm of Jordan Love to a surprise 29-22 win.
The Packers have won 4-of-their-last-5 and kept pace with the Vikings for the final NFC playoff spot. Green Bay is one game behind in the loss column. The Vikings host the Bears on Monday night.
Love threw 3 touchdown passes and had a quarterback rating of 125. He improved upon the best game of his career a week earlier in a come-from-behind win against the Chargers.
“That’s kind of the makeup of this team,” Love said. “The way everybody shows up every week, continues to work, is huge. Once we get in a game, we know it’s going to be a fight. No one ever flinches.”
The Lions were stopped three times on fourth down. The key play was a fake punt deep in the Lions own end. Lukas Van Ness and Henry Pearson stopped the fake. Three plays later, the Packers scored their only touchdown of the second half on a 16-yard pass from Love to Christian Watson.
The Packers host the Chiefs next week on Sunday Night Football.
