Leaders in the Villages of Weston and Rothschild will meet Friday morning to share an update on the potential merger of the Everest Metro Police Department and neighboring Rothschild PD.
Rothschild Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle and Weston Administrator Jami Gebert will hold a news conference at 8:30 AM at the Weston Municipal Center
Talks of merging the departments are nothing new but have gained momentum in the last three months. Gebert and VanDeWalle first announced the plans back in mid-January, saying they had enlisted a consultant to help iron out details of the potential change.
The talks came just as Everest Metro lost Chief Clay Schulz to retirement. The Police Commission has held off on hiring a new leader while the merger is being explored.
If the departments merge they would come under a new name and identity, and would likely be housed near the current Rothschild Village Hall and Riverside Fire Department on Grand Avenue.
