WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau mayor’s election has entered its final week, and candidates on both sides hope to make a final impression on voters before they head to the polls.
According to Adimpact, the state Democratic Party has recently spent a total of $191,000 for ads this week alone that will run on local TV and radio stations in favor of incumbent Mayor Katie Rosenberg, while her challenger Doug Diny has spent a total of $92,000 since March 7th.
These recent ad buys will discuss Rosenberg’s efforts to clean up PFAs from the city’s water supply while also working to help small businesses grow and create more manufacturing jobs in the area. However, Diny has criticized Rosenberg in recent ads, saying, “We’re all feeling the pain of Mayor Rosenberg’s reckless policies,” which he notes include water and sewer rates “skyrocketing” and not working toward ensuring Wausau remains a safe place to live.
During February’s primary election, Rosenberg won 52.6% of the vote while Diny won 42.1%, but only roughly 4,000 votes were cast between the two candidates, which is expected to rise significantly next Tuesday.
