The Wausau School Board will hear an update regarding proposed staff reductions to help cover a $2.5 million budget shortfall for the coming academic year.
The proposal was brought forward in March, calling for the elimination of roughly 26 full-time equivalency positions, saving about $2.3 million. That would still leave a shortfall of around $400,000.
That discussion will be followed by data from a consulting group regarding a possible operating referendum that could go on the November ballot. The Donovan Group has proposed a public survey to gauge support for a hypothetical question this May, with results presented to the board in June.
It should be emphasized that the board has not crafted a specific referendum question. If the board chooses to move forward with the item, it would be for informational purposes only.
You can see the presentations for both items as part of Monday’s agenda packet by clicking here.
Monday’s meeting begins at 5:00 PM at the Longfellow Administration building. A live stream will be provided.
