STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point say multiple tips from the community helped them successfully execute Wednesday’s two-home drug bust on Water Street and Forest Street.
Lieutenant Joe Johnson says it was a case they had been building for several months. “Specifically at the Water Street address- we had gotten some tips over the last few months about people there and what they had been engaged in. [We used] that information to our advantage to start an investigation and eventually get a signed search warrant.”
That led them to more than 1.3 pounds of meth. Based on the size of the haul and other evidence officers believe the drugs were being sold to others in the community. “We had information that led us to believe it was definitely an operation where they were trying to get rid of it and make a profit. Was there personal use? Yes, we believe so. However with that [quantity], one person can’t use that much.”
SWAT teams from both Stevens Point and Plover were called in to secure both scenes due to the violent criminal histories of some of the suspects. “We expected there to be five people at Water Street and seven or more at Forest and most, if not all, of those people had some type of criminal history. Either arrested or on probation. And some of that criminal history was violent.”
Johnson adds that they conducted two separate raids instead of simultaneous events because officers didn’t believe one group would tip off the other.
The estimated street value of the meth alone was $60,000. Mushrooms, THC, and drug paraphernalia were also seized.
The home on Forest Street has also been deemed uninhabitable by the city.
