MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The 2024 NBA draft is just 19 days away, and the experts and scouts believe the Bucks will likely target some of the draft’s top big men.
According to scouts at NBAdraft.net, the Bucks should consider selecting Baylor big man Yves Messi, who stands at 7’0 and is 230 LBS, and is ranked as the 21st-best player in the draft after a strong 2023 season earning Big 12 All-Freshman Team and Big 12 All-Defensive Team honors with the Bears. Messi is known as a rim runner and ally-oop extraordinaire and is compared to NBA centers Kevon Looney and Clint Capela.
Milwaukee may look to shake up their roster this off-season following their first-round playoff exit, which could include trading veteran players such as Pat Connaughton or Bobby Portis Jr. to create cap space and roster space to bring in younger, more athletic players like Messi, who can help Milwaukee compete with younger teams such as the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks.
Other draft experts from outlets such as Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports have listed players such as G-League forward Tyler Smith and Swedish forward Bobi Klintman as other possible targets for the Bucks at the 23rd overall pick due to their athletic traits, ability to protect the rim, and ability to score efficiently in and around the basket.
Milwaukee also holds the 33rd overall selection, and the analysts expect the Bucks to take a guard such as Creighton’s Trey Alexander or UConn’s Tristen Newton in case they lose Patrick Beverley in free agency.
