TOWNSHIP OF BIRCH, WI (WSAU) – The charges against a 44-year-old minor corrections officer at Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake schools are serious battery and physical abuse of a child causing bodily harm, both felonies.
A criminal complaint states that Evan White, 44, is accused of hurting a 17-year-old girl in April at Copper Lake School, which is a juvenile institution for girls located north of Merrill, while Lincoln Hills School is a juvenile detention center for boys. The complaint says that on April 15, just before 8 p.m., police were called in response to a complaint alleging that White had mistreated a 17-year-old while escorting her to her Copper Lake School room. The victim received medical attention off-site.
The victim was returning inside from recreation time, according to the criminal complaint, but she wouldn’t go back to her room. White is a member of the Rapid Response Team; she took a rock and began to attempt to shatter a window.
The victim mentioned in the complaint said that White asked her to stop, but she refused. She claimed that as White tried to lead her back to her room, she began to “cuss” and “got into his face.” The complaint states that after she spat in White’s face twice, White became enraged and gave her a bear hug.
White will appear in Lincoln County Court for the first time on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and faces a maximum sentence of nine years in prison and fines of $20,000.
