WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A plea and sentencing hearing has been scheduled for a Wausau man suspected of slitting his friend’s throat while high on drugs.
Lee Xiong is accused of taking the action after a period of prolonged drug use and little sleep, according to the victim. The 40-year-old had been using methamphetamine at the time and told the victim he was paranoid that a hit had been placed on him.
Investigators say he used a boxcutter to slit the victim’s throat, saying he thought they would carry out the hit.
Charges were filed in January 2023, though the incident happened in the fall of 2022. Xiong is being held in the Waupaca County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
The case was scheduled for trial in early 2024, but that fell through. A new attorney was then assigned to Xiong one year later, and the case has remained in progress ever since.
Court records now show a plea and sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 30th. He faces a life sentence with the possibility of parole left to the discretion of the judge.
