RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU) – The Three Lakes Police Department, the Rhinelander Police Department, the Minocqua Police Department, and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office will hold a drug take-back day on April 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
These drug turn-ins provide the public with an opportunity to prevent prescription medication abuse and prescription medication theft by removing potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs from their homes.
The goal of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible method of disposal while also educating the public about the abuse potential of these medications. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office hopes that citizens will take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of unused or unnecessary medications.
Prescription drugs, both controlled and uncontrolled, over-the-counter drugs, ointments, patches, non-aerosol sprays, inhalers, creams, vials, and pet meds are among the things that will be accepted.
Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens, and so on…), and household hazardous waste will not be accepted (paint, pesticides, oil, gas). Sharps will also not be accepted for recycling during the collection event.
The Minocqua Police Department, Rhinelander Police Department, Three Lakes Police Department, and Oneida County Landfill will all host the event.
This service will be free and anonymous, no questions asked.
