WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A plea hearing has been scheduled for a former Weston utility clerk accused of mishandling more than $21,000 in customer payments may have a plea deal with the state.
Theresa Coleman is scheduled for a plea hearing on December 4th. She faces five felony counts of misconduct in public office. She previously pled not guilty to the charges.
The 59-year-old is accused of manipulating customer accounts by moving credits without approval from the property owner. The credits were allegedly given to accounts belonging to herself or others she knew.
Many of the manipulated accounts belonged to recently moved customers. In one case, Coleman is accused of claiming that the property owner wanted to help his sister, who was having financial difficulty. The customer in question didn’t have a sister.
Similar notes were found on other accounts Coleman had access to.
The five charges carry a combined maximum sentence of 14 years in prison. A pretrial conference is scheduled for November 20th.
