GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Later this week, one of the top quarterbacks projected for the 2023 NFL draft will visit the Packers to work out for the team’s coaches and scouts.
Hendon Hooker, a former star quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers, is ranked as the 91st overall prospect in this year’s draft by Pro Football Focus. Yet many NFL insiders are already beginning to hear that Hooker could be chosen in the first round.
Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker met with the Saints today and has the Titans and Packers to close out this week. His schedule is packed pre draft with visits.
Does he go first round? Starting to think so.

Hooker was named SEC Player of the Year in 2022 and was considered a Heisman Trophy contender until he injured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a loss to South Carolina in November.
The Packers have been conducting research on a number of quarterback draft prospects, including BYU’s Jaren Hall, who met formally with the Packers at the Combine last month. After the meeting, Hall told reporters that being drafted by Green Bay would be “phenomenal.” The Packers have also met with former ECU quarterback and NFLPA Bowl MVP Holten Ahlers extensively. According to reports, the Packers have already met with Ahlers three times.
The Packers currently have three quarterbacks on their roster, including Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, and practice squad quarterback Danny Etling. Etling was drafted by the New England Patriots in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but has yet to play a single regular-season NFL snap.
With Rodgers expected to be traded to the New York Jets, the team will be left with a huge void to fill behind new starter Jordan Love.
The draft will take place on April 27-29, with the Packers first selection being 15th overall.
