STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) – On Saturday, April 8, the Stevens Point Fire Department will conduct live-fire training in a single-family residential structure owned by SPASH at 333 2nd St. North. Large amounts of smoke will be present at times, potentially impairing visibility on nearby roads.
Due to the lengthy process required to comply with all regulations, burning an acquired structure is a practice that is far less common than in previous years. The SPFD obtained State DNR approval before conducting this training, as well as asbestos abatement and site preparation for the safety of the public and those participating in the training.
The Stevens Point Fire Department wishes to thank the Stevens Point Area Senior High School, the Stevens Point Water Department, and the Stevens Point Police Department for their contributions to this educational experience, as well as the residents of the surrounding area for their assistance during this training exercise.
