GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – As the Packers prepare to host former Heisman Trophy contender Hendon Hooker for a workout with coaches and staff, they continue to scout players who can fill some significant holes on the roster.
Official visits have been scheduled for Old Dominion tight end Zack Kuntz, LSU defensive lineman Jaquelin Roy, and Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright.
Some Packers insiders believe Darnell Wright could be a “darkhorse” for the Packers at pick fifteen because he wants to play right tackle in the NFL and the team wants Zach Tom to move to left tackle once David Bakhtiari is no longer in Green Bay.
With 2022 starter Yosh Nijiman currently a restricted free agent and this season likely being Bakhtiari’s final in Green Bay, the team is in need of some offensive line depth. According to Pro Football Focus, Wright is the 20th ranked prospect in this year’s draft, and scouts say very few tackles in college football were more awe-inspiring than Wright when involved in the run game.
Meanwhile, Kuntz will be the team’s second tight end visitor, following Georgia standout Darnell Washington in March. Kuntz wowed at the NFL Combine with a 4.55 forty-yard dash at 6’7″ 255 pounds. He is ranked 150th on Pro Football Focus’ big board and could be a great late-round pick for the Packers.
The Packers’ defensive line is also very thin after the departures of Dean Lowery and Jarran Reed in free agency. According to scouts, there aren’t many physical flaws in Jaquelin Roy’s game. He doesn’t have a single physical characteristic that is below average. He has a plug-and-play NFL body and could be a day one starter for the right team.
