PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Plover and Stevens Point will be bustling with youth softball players in June and July.
The area will host two state tournaments in a span of a few weeks including the North American Fastpitch State Tournament and USA Softball State Tournament. Administrator Steven Kunst says it’s thanks in part to the strength of the Plover-Whiting Youth Athletics Association. “They do really well. They run those tournaments and leagues, provide that recreational resource.”
He says when those efforts get noticed by statewide groups, opportunities like these are born. They also mean more work for everyone involved, from the leaders of PWYA running the tournaments to the village staff who perform ground maintenance before and during the games.”We provide a lot of summer help staffing for these games to help drag the fields, take care of refuse/recycling, and maintain the grounds. We have an active presence out there all the time.
“It really is a team effort. We’ve worked together so well for so long that it really is a smooth operation,” added Kunst.
The NAFA Wisconsin State Tourney will be held the last weekend in June. The USA Softball Class B State Tournament is scheduled for July 11th through the 14th.
