WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A man convicted of homicide for a 2021 homicide will be sentenced Tuesday afternoon.
Michael Turner will be sentenced for killing a man as he was pared in a vehicle near Thomas Street in Wausau. The shooting happened following a brief argument in May of 2021 when Turner approached the 45-year-old victim. He shot the man, then fled. The victim was able to go to a nearby business for help and was hospitalized.
The victim died a few weeks later, but not before he was able to identify Turner as the suspect.
Turner was arrested in Marquette County shortly after police issued a be on the lookout for his vehicle.
The case was scheduled to go to trial in mid-April. Instead, Turner changed his plea from not guilty to guilty two days before jury selection began. He faces a mandatory life sentence on Tuesday, with only the possibility of parole left to the discretion of the Judge. The hearing is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
